Tips to Run Windows XP Smoothly

Windows XP, the best OS I would say that was ever released by Microsoft! I use Windows XP till date and not use Windows 7, the latest operating system from Microsoft. And I can say that I still love the Windows XP view and the UI. If you also you Windows XP, then this is a post that you should read in order to run your Windows XP smoothly and without any problems. Mainly, these tasks revolve around cleaning your Windows files or unused files and also De-fragmenting your hard drive.

So, to begin with, I would like to tell you a few steps that you can take so that you prevent your Windows XP computer from slowing down or crashing!

You need to perform these tasks at least every month so that you can keep you computer running smoothly. Now, getting on to the topic, you need to run the following Windows Tools on your computer :

  1. Disk Cleanup : This utility basically cleans up all your temporary files on your system that helps speed up the system to some extent. To run this utility, browse it here : Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Cleanup .

  2. ScanDisk : This utility check for any errors on your Hard Drive partition and also automatically fixes it, so that Windows XP does not take time reading a particular sector of the hard drive. To use this, Go to My Computer, right-click on the partition you want to perform. Go to the tools tab and choose Error-checking.

  3. Disk Defragmentation : When a computer is used, bits of data can be thrown around a disk in no particular order, and when you call up a program or file, the OS has to search the disk until it finds all of the data needed to call up that particular program or file. The result is programs and files taking a bit longer to open. So, the job of Disk Defragmenter is to collect that data and put it in one single row, without leaving empty spaces in the memory. To run this, browse it at : Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Disk Defragmenter.

Hope these ways help you make your Windows XP running computer smoother and faster. Keep subscribed to TechHive so that you do not miss a single post at TechHive.
