Fix Error 3194 : iTunes

Error 3194 is the error that pops on your screen when you try to update or restore your iPhone or iPod? Well, not anymore. Here is the solution that can help you easily overcome this error.Error 3194 seems to be triggered when unsigned firmware is used, often during an iOS downgrade or even during some restores. Here’s a small guide on how to troubleshoot this error in an easy way. All we have to do is, just to block the Apple's firmware signing services.

Fix Error 3194

Before proceeding ahead, make sure that your iTunes is not open and your iPhone or iPod is not connected to the computer.

  • Locate your System's hosts file. For Windows users, this is located at : C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts and for Mac OSX users, this is located at : /etc/hosts

  • Open the hosts file with Notepad or any other Editing application with Administrative privileges.

  • Add the following line of code to the bottom of the hosts file.

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

This is how my hosts file looks like on Windows XP.

  • Connect your iPhone or iPod to the computer.

  • Launch iTunes.

  • Put your iPhone or iPod in the DFU mode, which can be done easily by turning off your phone while connected and holding the home button as soon as the screen goes black. You should be able to put it in the DFU mode easily.

  • Now, use the iTunes normal restore or update procedure as before and you will not get the error you were getting before.

Once your iOS update is finished, don't forget to remove the “74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com” line from your hosts file again so that iTunes can properly update as usual.
