Backing up is a very important thing when it comes to sensitive data and I believe on your phone, your most important data is your contacts. So, it is actually good to backup your contacts every now and then. I backup my contacts every week and thus, I have a backup of my contacts every time I mess around with my phone! Or, before you mess with your phone, you should take a backup.
Well, to take a backup of contacts, there are two ways. One way is that you sync all your contacts with your Google Account and then retrieve them from the server on your device when you need it. But this requires as active data connection(Data connection or WiFi connectivity). What if you are in a situation when you need to take a backup and no internet connectivity is available. Well, in that case, you can follow the second method. The second method makes a backup of your contacts on your SD Card. If you have an internal and external SD card, the backup is made on the external SD card.To take a backup of your contacts, follow these steps.
- Open the contacts app in your phone by pressing on contacts in the Dock Bar.
- Now, press the menu/options button on your phone. This will open up a menu.
- From the menu, select Import/Export.
- On the next screen, choose the option of Exporting to SD card. When you want your contacts back, then you should choose the import contacts option here.
- Then, confirm the location of the file by pressing OK on the screen. This will start the backup of your contacts and which will be saved as a vcf file on your SD card.
- After the backup has been made, you can do whatever you want with your phone, without the fear of losing your contacts.
Still, you can lose your contacts if your SD card crashes, so it is recommended to copy the contacts file to your computer, as a safety measure when you get time.
