Sometimes you feel the need to hide your photos, videos or songs on your Android Smartphone but no matter you add them to whichever folder, you can still see them when you open up your Gallery. And sometimes these are your personal pictures or videos that you do not want anyone to look at. Well, now there are two options you have for hiding them, the first one is disable the Gallery using any file or application manager on a rooted android device, which I know you would not want to. The other option you are left with is to hide them from being shown in the gallery of your phone.
Doing this is not a very difficult task, but you will need a Computer and a notepad or a similar text file editor. Well, before I tell you how you are going to do, I would like to tell you what you are going to do. Well, you are going to do a simple thing. You are going to stop the Android File System from indexing a particular folder on your phone and whenever you add something to that folder, your photos and videos will not show in the gallery! Also, your music files will not be shown in the music player. When you apply this trick, you do not stop the file system from indexing any other folder but the specifies folder. This will not affect your other media files on the system.
Let's begin on how you can do that.
- Connect your Phone to your Computer using a USB Cable.
- Turn on USB Storage on your phone, if it requires you to do that!
- Create the folder that you want to use as a hidden folder.
- Now open up Notepad(or any other similar text editor) on your computer.
- Leave the content of the file empty and just go to File -> Save As.
- Browse to the specific folder.
- In the file name, type ".nomedia" (without the quotes) and select All files from the drop down menu below it.
- Click Save.
- This should do your job! Now when you add any media to this folder, it will automatically be prevented from scanning on your phone.
Hope this helps you keep your privacy! And also to keep some "Secret" things that you do not want other to see, if you know what I mean ( ;) ). Keep subscribed to TechHive for more such amazing tutorials.
