Photoshop : A Necessity for every Blogger

Do you know Photoshop? If you do, then I am sure you definitely know the advantage you have if you are a Blogger. Many a times, Bloggers are required to do some or the other kind of editing of their images or say design a banner for their upcoming project! This can sometimes be a tedious job if you are not well acquainted with the knowledge of Photoshop. If you are not, you tend to look for others to do the same for you, free or paid.

Photoshop is necessary for Blogging!

Well, there have been various discussions about the same topic and here I am to share my views on the topic. Well, to be honest, I feel that Photoshop is something that every blogger must be capable of using. It is helpful to you when you are writing different posts/tutorials and need to point out something to your readers! I am a Photoshop enthusiast and that is why I always use Photoshop whenever I am posting anything on the blog because a Picture is worth a thousand words! I think I am able to convey the message I want to by the images more easily as compared to writing it down in words!

I know you would be laughing at the last line of the previous paragraph as I have not used many images in this post. This is a post in which not many can be used! All i can do is something that goes with Photoshop and blogging both! That thing apart now, getting back on the topic! Getting a glimpse of what you are saying in a pictorial form, makes it easy to understand and the best photo-editing application for your PC is Photoshop, I guess. So, I would just like to conclude that Photoshop is something that you should learn, maybe just the basics but you should be capable of doing something on Photoshop!

Hope you liked reading the article as much as I did writing it! Keep subscribed to TechHive for more such interesting posts!

QR Codes : Make and Share

QR Code, which is an abbreviation used for Quick Response Code is a two-dimensional bar code that is capable of storing various information unlike the traditional one-dimensional bar code that you see on any product in the market. The one-dimensional bar code is capable of storing a String or a Alpha-Numeric value. Though, generally it is used to store a numeric value. We can say that QR Codes are an advanced version of the traditional bar code. Nowadays, QR Codes are something that is picking up the trend and you have started to see them in the newspaper or the other forms of Printed Media. Also, on the internet you might have seen these QR Codes.

You can use your mobile phone to scan a QR Code easily and open up the respective thing on your phone. The application that I am going to share with you today is capable of making QR Codes for the following things :

  • Contacts - Name, Phone Number, Postal Address, Email Address, Website etc.

  • Web Address - Link to a web address and share its link the modern way!

  • Application - Share any Android application with your friends and family!

  • Plain Text - Share a piece of Text with your friends the Modern way.

  • Image - Share any image that exists on your phone.

  • And Many more....

Well, to use the application that I am going to share, you will need an Android device because the app has been released for Android only till now. The application is named QR Droid. This single application is capable of making and also reading the QR Codes that you want it to.

Creating QR Code :

Let me show you how to make a QR Code for a Plain Text using this application. In the same way, you can make QR Codes for the other categories.

  1. Install the application on your phone by Downloading it from the market or if you already have a QR Code Reader, scan this code to download the app directly on your phone.

  2. Open the application. It will be on Scan By Default. Select Create from the options on the screen.

  3. Choose what you want to share as a QR Code. For this example, I will be using Plain Text.

  4. Enter the text you want to share and press the Create QR Code Button on the top right.

  5. Now, on the next page, you can change the size of the code, the color, or even give a logo to the QR Code. Edit whatever you feel like on this page.

  6. Next, choose save or share depending on what you want to do with the code. If you want to save it to your SD Card and share it later, choose save or you can also directly choose share and you can send it via email or any other way to your friends. This is the final QR Code that came up for the Plain Text I used :

Scanning QR Code :

You can scan any QR Code in two ways. The first one is by using your phone's camera and taking a picture of the code. The other way to decode it by using the Decode option in QRDroid, which can be accessed by going to more and choosing Decode Image. This will simply ask you to choose the QR Code that you want to decode by opening your Gallery. Choose the appropriate code and it will be decoded. Try Reading the above Final QR Code that we just made. When I read that on my phone, it showed the following thing :

Hope this tutorial helps you to create and share in the modern style of sharing! Keep subscribed to TechHive to get more updates on applications like this!

Hide Folders in Gallery : Android

Sometimes you feel the need to hide your photos, videos or songs on your Android Smartphone but no matter you add them to whichever folder, you can still see them when you open up your Gallery. And sometimes these are your personal pictures or videos that you do not want anyone to look at. Well, now there are two options you have for hiding them, the first one is disable the Gallery using any file or application manager on a rooted android device, which I know you would not want to. The other option you are left with is to hide them from being shown in the gallery of your phone.

Hide Folders in your Gallery of Android Phones

Doing this is not a very difficult task, but you will need a Computer and a notepad or a similar text file editor. Well, before I tell you how you are going to do, I would like to tell you what you are going to do. Well, you are going to do a simple thing. You are going to stop the Android File System from indexing a particular folder on your phone and whenever you add something to that folder, your photos and videos will not show in the gallery! Also, your music files will not be shown in the music player. When you apply this trick, you do not stop the file system from indexing any other folder but the specifies folder. This will not affect your other media files on the system.

Let's begin on how you can do that.

  1. Connect your Phone to your Computer using a USB Cable.

  2. Turn on USB Storage on your phone, if it requires you to do that!
    Turn On USB Storage

  3. Create the folder that you want to use as a hidden folder.

  4. Now open up Notepad(or any other similar text editor) on your computer.

  5. Leave the content of the file empty and just go to File -> Save As.
    Save As File in Notepad

  6. Browse to the specific folder.

  7. In the file name, type ".nomedia" (without the quotes) and select All files from the drop down menu below it.

  8. Click Save.

  9. This should do your job! Now when you add any media to this folder, it will automatically be prevented from scanning on your phone.

Hope this helps you keep your privacy! And also to keep some "Secret" things that you do not want other to see, if you know what I mean ( ;) ). Keep subscribed to TechHive for more such amazing tutorials.
