Save SHSH Blobs of Old Firmware : Apple

SHSH Blobs are a Hash Signature system that Apple developed in order to sign the firmware that is being added to a device. The advantage of saving SHSH Blobs of your device before Upgrading to a new version of the firmware are quite obvious. If you have SHSH Blobs saved, you can always Downgrade to that version of the iOS even after updating to a newer version. Say, you updated to a newer firmware but could not find a way to Jailbreak it and now you want to go back to the older version of the iOS in order to be able to jailbreak it. But, if you do not have SHSH Blobs, you simply can not downgrade your firmware. Thus, saving SHSH Blobs of your iOS is really important before upgrading your firmware!

Well, this difficult task has been made easy by one of the iPhone Developer, iH8Sn0w. This developer developed an application of windows, named iFaith, which is capable of saving SHSH Blobs of all iOS Versions from 3.x.x to 5.0.1 . Let's begin with how to save your SHSH Blobs.

  1. Download the latest version of iFaith (v1.4.2 as of 25/02/12) and open it.

  2. An instruction screen will show up. Click OK on that.

  3. Next, a screen similar to this will show up. Click on Dump SHSH Blobs.

  4. Then, you need to click on Proceed and then again Proceed. After this, it will ask you if you are using Apple TV 2? Select the appropriate answer depending on your device.

  5. Now, power off your device, while it is connected to the computer and click Start on the screen.

  6. Now, enter into the DFU Mode, which can be done easily by following the on-screen instructions.

  7. When you enter into the DFU mode successfully, the app will automatically start saving your SHSH Blobs. After it is done, it will ask you where to save them. Browse to the location and click Save.
